JNS.org — Israel’s High Court of Justice agreed Thursday to postpone the evacuation of Samaria’s Amona outpost one last time, giving residents a grace period of 45 days to move.
The ruling comes a day after the court rejected the residents’ petition to make the eviction — originally set for Dec. 25 and now scheduled for Feb. 8, 2017 — contingent upon a compromise being reached on the outpost’s relocation. The residents have now agreed to leave Amona quietly and without preconditions.
Explaining its decision to grant a postponement, the High Court said, “There is now a commitment to leave peacefully, without clashes or opposition…This commitment is unconditional, and therefore we are going so far as to accede to the request.”
Outposts such as Amona are settlements that did not receive appropriate administrative authorizations and are therefore illegal, according to Israeli law.
