IDF Begins Preparations for Demolition of Jerusalem Truck-Rammer’s Home

The IDF has begun preparations to demolish the house of the terrorist shot dead while ramming his truck into a group of soldiers in the Israeli capital on Sunday, murdering four and wounding 16, Israel’s Channel 2 reported on Tuesday.
Members of the the Engineering Corps’ special operations unit arrived at the house, located in the Jabel Mukaber neighborhood of east Jerusalem, to take measurements ahead of the demolition.
Shortly after the terrorist attack on the officers’ course cadets who had stopped at the Haas Promenade in Jerusalem’s Armon Hanatziv neighborhood as part of an educational tour, Israel’s security cabinet unanimously voted to implement a number of retaliatory measures. Among these were: the demolition of 28-year-old Fadi al-Qanbar’s house; detention of members of his family for interrogation; the forbidding of his family to meet with relatives residing in the West Bank and Gaza; and the refusal to return his body to his family for burial.
On Monday night, Jerusalem police arrested Sami al-Qunbar, the terrorist’s brother, on suspicion of his having had foreknowledge of the attack.
“Nobody knows why he did it,” Sami al-Qunbar told Channel 2 on Monday. “Maybe his brakes gave out. He didn’t mean to commit a terrorist attack.”
Sami al-Qunbar also rejected claims — made, among others, by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — that his brother had been a supporter of ISIS.
However, according to a report in Israel Hayom, Fadi al-Qunbar — a father of four — posted several pro-Islamic State comments on his Facebook page, and his cousin recounted that Fadi had been “very upset” by recent reports that the incoming Trump administration was considering relocating the US Embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and had said such a move would “spark a war.”
As The Algemeiner reported, thousands of Israelis attended the funerals on Monday of each of the four IDF soldiers killed in the truck-ramming attack.
The soldiers were: 20-year-old Lt. Yael Yekutiel of Givatayim; 22-year-old cadet Shir Hajaj of Ma’aleh Adumim; 20-year-old cadet Shira Tzur of Haifa; and 20-year-old cadet Erez Orbach of Alon Shvut.
