Harper’s Bazaar Ranks Israel Among Top Travel Destinations for 2017; Warns Against ‘Unfortunate Mistake’ of Calling Country ‘War-Torn’

“It would be an unfortunate mistake to fearfully paint [Israel’s] complicated politics as war-torn,” the fashion magazine Harper’s Bazaar said, in describing its decision to rank the Jewish state Number 8 out of its list of the 17 best travel destinations in 2017.
The country’s “vibrant culture, phenomenal food scene, historic landmarks, beaches and endlessly impressive hotels,” it said, “are too much of a draw to ignore.”
“Be sure to tour the shuks (markets) and the historic sites in Jerusalem – a trip to Israel is definitely not complete without a visit to the Kotel, the Wailing Wall,” the publication suggested, adding that the “delicious and dynamic scene” in the capital’s Mahane Yehuda market is also a must-see.
Tel Aviv and Jaffa were praised for their “vibrant food, arts and cultural scene,” and travelers were urged to enjoy the Dead Sea spas in the desert, take jeep rides and hikes in the Golan mountains and spend some time in the southern resort town of Eilat.
The magazine recommended spring as the optimal time of year to visit the country, for affordable tickets and prime weather. But, it warned, avoid the pricey week of Passover, “unless you are looking to travel to Israel for the holiday itself.”
Harper’s Bazaar said it compiled its list of the 17 best travel destinations for 2017 with the help of insiders and travel industry experts. Other locations included New Zealand, Canada, Finland, Portugal, Rwanda, India’s Golden Triangle and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
