British Comedian to Attendees of Jewish Charity Dinner: ‘Jews Love Charity and They Love Dinner’
by Shiryn Ghermezian
In a video message to attendees of World Jewish Relief’s annual gala on Monday night, the host of CBS’s “Late, Late Show” joked about the constant stream of requests he fields about creating clips for Jewish charity events.
“And I’m not even Jewish,” said British comedian James Corden. “It’s out of hand with the Jews and their charity dinners. They bloody love charity and they love dinner. What’s next week’s annual dinner video for, the Jewish pet society?”
He concluded by saying that he was finally persuaded to do the video after being told it would make his mother “kvell,” Yiddish for “burst with pride.”
World Jewish Relief is a UK-based international humanitarian agency. Speakers at the charity dinner also included Prince Charles and UK Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis.
