JNS.org – The new US ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, has warned Iran that its recent ballistic missile test was “absolutely unacceptable.”
At an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on Wednesday, Haley said, “The United States is not naive. We are not going to stand by. You will see us call them out.”
Fox News reported Sunday that Iran conducted a test of its Khorramshahr medium-range ballistic missile at a well-known test site outside the city of Semnan, about 140 miles east of Tehran. This action is prohibited by UN Resolution 2231, which was put in place after the July 2015 nuclear deal was signed and forbade the Islamic Republic from conducting ballistic missile tests for eight years.
Iran confirmed Wednesday that it had conducted the test, but the country denied that it had violated either the nuclear agreement or UN resolutions.
“The action was in line with boosting Iran’s defense power and is not in contradiction with the JCPOA (the nuclear deal) or Resolution 2231,” Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan said, AFP reported.
“This test was in line with our ongoing program,” Dehghan added.“We have previously announced that we will execute the programs we have planned in production of defense items meant for our national interests and objectives. Nobody can influence our decision.”
