JNS.org – Tel Aviv has opened a “pop-up” hotel suite in a beachfront lifeguard tower, as part of a wider effort to increase tourism to the city.
The tiny “one-of-its-kind oceanfront hotel,” fully equipped with room service and a personal butler, is located on Frishman Beach, Israel’s Ministry of Tourism said in a statement.
Guests of the suite will be selected from winners of an online photo competition co-sponsored by the Tourism Ministry and a large online discount hotel website, but the room is not open for rent by the general public.
The pop-up suite — designed by Aline Langlieb and graffiti artist Edgar Rafael — is part of a campaign to encourage visitors to Israel’s White City. Tourism Ministry Director-General Amir Halevi and Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai officially opened the room this week.
The hotel will return to its day job as a lifeguard tower at the beginning of the swimsuit season in April.
