‘Jews Don’t Ride Horses,’ Says ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Co-Star Josh Gad, Quipping That Animal He Rode in Film Was an ‘Antisemite’

The co-star of the new movie “Beauty and the Beast” had the audience of NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” roaring with laughter on Tuesday night, when he accused the animal he was forced to learn to ride during production of antisemitism.
“What I learned is that Jews don’t ride horses,” said Josh Gad, who plays LeFou in the film. “My horse[‘s]… name was Buddy, which is a misnomer because he’s a bastard. He literally threw me off his back the first day…then we had to ride into the village on these horses to sing the song ‘Belle.’ All we had to do was take three steps [but] my horse — this is not a joke, people will attest to this — moonwalked, walked backwards. Literally four steps backwards, then ran through the villagers. And then the [horse] trainer, literally with tears in his eyes, comes up to me and says, ‘I’m so sorry, I’ve never seen that happen before.'”
When Fallon complimented Gad on his riding skills in the film, the actor responded, “Thank you, but it’s all CGI [computer-generated imagery].”
“Beauty and the Beast” premieres on Friday.
