JNS.org – Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat met with Jason Greenblatt, President Donald Trump’s special representative for international negotiations, at the White House on Friday.

Barkat and Greenblatt “discussed affairs pertaining to Jerusalem,” according to a Facebook post shared by the mayor’s office.

“Greenblatt is a real lover of Jerusalem and the strengthening of Jerusalem is very important to him,” the post said.

The meeting came after Greenblatt traveled to the Middle East in March and held discussions with Israeli and Palestinian leaders amid the Trump administration’s effort to jumpstart the peace process.

Last week, Greenblatt reportedly laid out terms requesting that Israel freeze all construction in isolated settlements and place limits on new construction inside large settlement blocs. Although it was reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was surprised by these terms and rejected them, a senior Israeli official later denied that the Trump administration had requested the settlement freeze.
