In honor of Autism Awareness Month, the Israeli military published a video on Thursday highlighting the contributions of autistic soldiers.

In the video, 21-year-old IDF soldier Ziv — who fixes combat equipment — says his military service had provided him with direction in life.

“I wanted to give to the country and I wanted to feel the importance of being in uniform,” he says.

“I wake up in the morning saying I’ll have a great day, so I know that it’ll be great!” he adds.

In the clip, Ziv’s commander notes, “You don’t see soldiers like these every day.”

The IDF says it “salutes Ziv and the other soldiers on the autism spectrum who choose to serve our country.”
