JNS.org – A Patriot missile successfully downed a Syrian drone that entered Israeli airspace over the Golan Heights Thursday night, the IDF said.
“The IDF will not allow any breach of Israel’s airspace and will act against any attempt of infiltration,” the IDF said in a statement.
The incident came the same day Syrian state media reported that Israel launched an airstrike near Damascus International Airport, with as many as five missile strikes destroying several fuel tanks and warehouses, causing material destruction but no casualties.
Weapons intended to be transferred to Hezbollah, and supplied by Iran, were purportedly destroyed in the strike near the airport. While Israel neither confirmed nor denied involvement, Israeli Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz told Army Radio, “When we receive serious information about the intention to transfer weapons to Hezbollah, we will act. This incident is totally consistent with this policy.”
