IDF troops uncovered two Palestinian weapons lathes on Monday night during an operation near the West Bank city of Nablus, Israel’s Channel 2 reported.
The owner of the arms-production facilities in the Balata Refugee Camp where the machines were found was taken into custody by members of the IDF’s Golani Brigade, who were acting based on intelligence provided by the Shin Bet security agency.
As the troops entered the camp, there was an exchange of fire with Palestinian gunmen. No injuries were reported on either side.
Due to Israel’s ongoing efforts to crack down on Palestinian gun manufacturing activities, the price of firearms in the West Bank has risen sharply recently, the Channel 2 report said.
For example, the price of a homemade “Carlo” submachine gun is now around 7,000 shekels ($1,940), compared to 1,500 shekels ($415) a year ago.
