JNS.org – Israeli Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon visited Ramallah last week to meet with Palestinian Authority (PA) Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, marking a rare direct meeting between high-level Israeli and PA officials.
Kahlon’s visit was part of Israel’s implementation of confidence-building measures as part of US President Donald Trump’s bid to revive the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, Reuters reported.
Hamdallah and Kahlon, the leader of Israel’s Kulanu political party, discussed proposals including opening the Allenby Bridge border crossing between Jordan and the West Bank 24 hours a day, increasing the number of building permits for Palestinians living in Area C (the parts of the West Bank where Israel maintains full security and civil control), and further developing industrial zones near Jenin and Hebron.
“Civil-economic steps that Israel would promote with regard to the Palestinian Authority were presented at the meeting, following the visit of the US president,” the Israeli government said in a statement, according to Reuters.
