JNS.org – Islamic State claimed responsibility for Friday’s coordinated shooting and stabbing terror attacks in Jerusalem that left a female Israeli police officer dead and two others wounded.
A message posted by the jihadist group’s news agency, Amaq, said “the attack was carried out by three lions,” referring to the three Palestinian terrorists, who attacked Israeli police and civilians and were shot and killed at the scene, the Jerusalem Post reported.
The two attacks occurred simultaneously in Jerusalem’s Old City. Two attackers, armed with a semi-automatic weapon and a knife, attacked police at Zedekiah’s Cave. Police responded and killed both attackers.
A short distance away at Damascus Gate, a third Palestinian terrorist fatally stabbed an Israeli border police officer, later identified as Staff Sergeant Major Hadas Malka, 23, Jerusalem District Police Commander Yoram Halevy said. The assailant was shot and killed by security forces.
Malka was evacuated to Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. In addition to the officer, at least two other men were wounded in the attack, a Magen David Adom emergency services spokesperson said in a statement.
The male victims were fully conscious and suffered from ‘penetrating injuries,’ according to the spokesman. They are currently in the hospital in moderate and stable condition.
The Palestinian terrorists were later identified as Bara Ibrahim Muhammad Saleh, 19, Adel Hassan Ahmad Anakush, 18, and Osama Ahmad Mustafa Atta, 19, the Shin Bet security forces said. All three had “a background in terrorist activities” and had been known to Israeli authorities before Friday’s attack, according to the Shin Bet.
