Errant Fire From Syria Hits Israel’s Golan Heights for 18th Time in Recent Weeks

JNS.org – Two projectiles landed in Israel’s Golan Heights Saturday evening, marking the 17th and 18th instances of errant fire hitting the Jewish state from the Syrian Civil War in recent weeks.
The projectiles fell in the same vicinity as where the majority of the recent errant fire has hit Israel, in an area located between Quneitra and the Valley of Tears. No injuries were reported in the latest incidents. The IDF responded by firing on artillery belonging to the Syrian regime.
Israel’s retaliatory strike targeted a Syrian military position near the Naba Fawar base, the Hezbollah-affiliated Al Mayadeen TV network reported.
“Israel holds the Syrian regime responsible for any breach of its borders and will act accordingly,” IDF spokesman Brig. Gen. Ronen Manelis said following Saturday’s incident. “Israel maintains a policy of non-involvement in the Syrian Civil War. However, we will not tolerate any breach of Israel’s sovereignty.”
Errant fire from Syria had hit Israel’s Golan June 28 during a visit to the area by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“We are not prepared to accept any amount of fire in the Golan or any other area…we will not allow extremist Islam led by Iran or the Islamic State to open a front of terror against the state of Israel from the Syrian side on the Golan,” Netanyahu said at the time.
