JNS.org – Israel is reportedly expected to approve 800 new housing units in the Jerusalem communities of Pisgat Ze’ev, Neve Yaakov, Ramot and Gilo, which are Jewish neighborhoods located beyond the pre-1967 lines.
In addition to the Jerusalem Planning and Building committee’s anticipated approval of the 800 new units, construction plans for 114 housing units in the eastern Jerusalem Arab neighborhoods of Jabel Mukaber, Ras al-Amud, Sharafat, Shuafat and A-Tur have been submitted for approval.
The new housing units would follow the Planning and Building Committee’s approval Wednesday of 98 housing units in Ramat Shlomo and 80 units in Ramot.
“Building in Jerusalem is necessary, important and will continue at full strength in order to enable more young people to live in Jerusalem, build their future and strengthen the capital of Israel,” Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Ministry of Construction and Housing as well as the Jerusalem Municipality are in the midst of developing an agreement on the construction of 28,000 new homes in the capital city during the next decade.
