The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate, visited the site of a former concentration camp in Poland on Tuesday and met with a group of Holocaust survivors, the Jewish Chronicle reported.
The royal couple made the stop at Stutthof during a five-day tour of Germany and Poland.
Zigi Shipper — an 87-year-old Jew who was held at Stutthof and moved to London after World War II ended — was one of the survivors who recalled for William and Kate on Tuesday the horrors they endured in the camp at the hands of the Nazis.
“It is so important that young people know what happened,” Shipper was quoted by the Jewish Chronicle as saying. “But there aren’t many of us left. I hope today’s visit will remind the world what happened.”
