JNS.org – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday addressed a special economic event in Buenos Aires attended by Argentinian business leaders and a delegation of representatives from several Israeli companies.
“This is the first time ever that an Israeli prime minister comes to Argentina as prime minister or comes to any country south of the United States,” said Netanyahu in his opening address.
“It’s a new age in our relations …. with Latin America,” he said, while crediting Argentine President Mauricio Macri with “transforming” the friendship between Israel and the South American nation.
Prior to delivering his address, Netanyahu met privately with Macri in Buenos Aires and discussed how to increase economic cooperation between their countries. The presence of the Israeli business delegation from companies in the fields of agriculture, water, communications and energy, was expected to enhance reciprocal economic relations.
Netanyahu also met with Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes in the Argentine capital. The Israeli leader and Cartes reportedly discussed the issue of Lebanese terror group Hezbollah penetrating Paraguay’s tri-border area with neighbors Argentina and Brazil.
