JNS.org – The Trump administration on Thursday declared its “strong support” for the Taylor Force Act, which seeks to cut off aid to the Palestinian Authority (PA) over its payments to convicted terrorists or their families.
“The Trump administration strongly supports the Taylor Force Act, which is a consequence of Palestinian Authority and Palestine Liberation Organization’s policy of paying terrorists and their families,” a State Department spokesperson said, The Associated Press reported.
The spokesperson added that President Donald Trump “raised the need to end any part of this program that incentivizes violence against Israeli and American citizens with President Mahmoud Abbas last May in both Washington and Bethlehem.”
The announcement comes several weeks after the Senate Foreign Relations Committee beefed up the legislation, named after a US Army veteran killed by a Palestinian terrorist in Jaffa last year.
The Taylor Force Act’s new provisions add stricter conditions on American and European aid to the PA, urging donor nations to “cease direct budgetary support until the Palestinian Authority stops all payments incentivizing terror.”
The bill would cut off all US aid to the PA until the State Department confirms that salaries paid to convicted terrorists have ceased. The new provisions also obligate the PA to revoke “any law, decree, regulation, or document authorizing or implementing a system of compensation” to terrorists and their families.
