Jewish actress and “Big Bang Theory” star Mayim Bialik discussed her “Thanksgiving-themed” Rosh Hashanah meal during her appearance last week on James Corden’s “Late, Late Show” on CBS.
On the episode, which aired the first night of Rosh Hashanah but was taped earlier in the day, Bialik explained that she had been “cooking for days” in anticipation of the Jewish new year. She hosted 10 people for the holiday and told Corden about the vegan menu she created for her guests.
Bialik explained, “Vegan Rosh Hashanah is basically no meat, and no dairy and no eggs. So what we do, since this is a fall holiday for the Jews, we do a Thanksgiving-themed dinner. So we do mashed potatoes and stuffing, as if its Thanksgiving because that’s sort of a gregorian harvest festival and Rosh Hashanah is the non-gregorian harvest festival.”
Corden thanked Bialik for “interrupting” her Rosh Hashanah preparations to film his show and she jokingly replied, “Well I cooked like this, so I was already dressed.” Corden played along and said, “Of course, you’re always fully made up when your cooking.”
Bialik also revealed on the show that she sings in an all-women’s quartet for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. She recalled writing a medley for a Hebrew song called “Tefillah“ (prayer) with Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” and Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer.”
