Israeli professional tennis player Dudi Sela quit in the third set of a Shenzhen Open quarter-final match on Friday, as Yom Kippur fell in China.
The 32-year-old Sela — Israel’s top-ranked men’s singles player — was trailing Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine 1-0 in the set when he left the court due to the impending start of the holiday — the holiest on the Jewish calendar.
Sela had lost the first set 6-3, but had rallied back to take the second 6-4.
