JNS.org – Israeli Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan has filed a complaint with the Knesset Ethics Committee over a recent visit to the Temple Mount by Ahmad Tibi, an Arab member of the Israeli legislature.
According to the complaint, Tibi flouted a decision by the Ethics Committee by entering the Temple Mount compound itself, “despite the good of the country, and in so putting public safety and security at risk and disrespecting the Knesset.”
Erdan said Tibi was caught on police cameras inside the Temple Mount compound July 27, despite the Ethics Committee’s explicit ban on lawmakers visiting the sensitive site. Tibi’s visit was a clear provocation during the tense period following the July 14 Arab terror attack that killed two Israeli Druze policemen near the Temple Mount, Erdan stated.
In response, Tibi said the police “pressured Public Security Minister Erdan to take steps against me, even though as an MK I have immunity. The conduct of the police is scandalous, and cannot keep me from entering [the Temple Mount’s] Al-Aqsa [Mosque].”
