JNS.org – Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is traveling to Saudi Arabia on Monday to meet with King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in a reportedly unplanned visit.
Abbas will depart for Riyadh from the Sinai Peninsula’s Sharm El Sheikh after meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for discussions on advancing Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts, Haaretz reported.
The Palestinian ambassador in Riyadh, Bassam al-Agha, said in a radio interview Monday that Abbas and the Saudi leaders would discuss domestic Palestinian issues and international matters. The talks are also expected to focus on the issues discussed during last week’s secret visit to Saudi Arabia by top White House officials.
Abbas’ purported meeting with the Saudi royals comes after Saudi Arabia on Saturday announced the arrests of dozens of senior Saudi figures as part of a crackdown on corruption. On the same day, Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri made his resignation announcement from Saudi Arabia.
