Lebanon’s Prime Minister Hariri Rescinds Resignation, Following Consensus Deal

JNS.org – Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri officially rescinded his resignation Tuesday, one month after he unexpectedly stepped down during a trip to Saudi Arabia.
Hariri announced the reversal following a cabinet meeting in which he endorsed a consensus deal with his political rivals in Lebanon. The cabinet meeting was the first held in Lebanon since Hariri had announced his resignation in Riyadh on Nov. 4.
“The Lebanese government, through all its political components, disassociates itself from any conflicts or wars, as well as the internal affairs of Arab countries to protect Lebanon’s political and economic relations with its Arab brothers,” Hariri said Tuesday.
On Nov. 21, Hariri returned to Lebanon following weeks of speculation over his whereabouts.
When Hariri announced his resignation, he said the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah and its patron, Iran, had threatened his life and the stability of Lebanon. Yet it soon became unclear whether or not the Saudis had forced Hariri to resign and were holding him under house arrest.
