Famed supermodel Bella Hadid joined a demonstration outside the US Embassy in London on Friday night against President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The 21-year-old — whose father is of Palestinian descent — marched alongside posters proclaiming “Free Palestine” and “End Israeli Occupation,” while still wearing her gown from a fashion event earlier in the evening.

Some protesters at the event were later criticized by leading Jewish groups for chanting in Arabic,  “Khaybar, Khaybar, oh Jews, the army of Muhammed is returning.” The slogan refers to a 7th-century battle fought by the Islamic prophet Muhammad against Jewish tribes, and is often invoked by Islamist terrorist groups. The popular anti-Israel slogan, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” can also be heard in video footage of the march.

Organizers of the event later condemned antisemitic chants that were used there.

Last Thursday, Hadid took to Instagram to denounce Trump’s Jerusalem move. Alongside a skyline photo of Jerusalem’s Old City, she told her 16 million followers that the announcement marked a “very, very sad day” in history. She added that seeing the “pain of the Palestinian people” following the president’s decision makes her “cry for the many many generations of Palestine.” Expressing further solidarity with the Palestinians, she wrote:

Seeing the sadness of my father, cousins, and Palestinian family that are feeling for our Palestinian ancestors makes this even harder to write. Jerusalem is home of all religions. For this to happen, I feel, makes us take 5 steps back making it harder to live in a world of peace.

The TREATMENT of the Palestinian people is unfair, one-sided and should not be tolerated. I stand with Palestine.

Hadid also noted that many of her friends are Jewish and added that she believes “there are no side, all religions [are] living side by side.”

Hadid’s father, well-known real estate developer Mohamed Hadid, was born in Nazareth during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War and fled to Syria with his family when he was 18 months old, according to The Huffington Post. He lived in both Syria and Lebanon before immigrating to the US at age 14.

After Bella posted for Vogue Arabia in September, she wrote about being proud to “represent and cherish my half-Palestinian blood from my father and his strong, loving, wonderful Arab side of my family.”
