JNS.org – The IDF is the most trusted public institution in Israel, according to the newly released 2017 Israel Democracy Index survey.
Eighty-one percent of respondents said they have faith in Israel’s military, followed by the Israeli presidency at 65 percent and the Supreme Court at 56 percent. Meanwhile, 65 percent of respondents stated that Israeli politicians are not in touch with the needs of voters.
Fifty-six percent said they believe the media portrays events as worse than they actually are, but 74 percent oppose a Knesset bill that would make it possible to shut down media outlets that are critical of Israeli government policy.
The survey, which is published annually by the Israel Democracy Institute think tank, was presented to Israeli President Reuven Rivlin on Tuesday.
