Orthodox Jewish Rapper Headlines Tribute Concert for Florida Shooting Victims Organized by Local Synagogue

Orthodox Jewish rapper Nissim performed at a tribute concert in Florida on Monday held in honor of the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.
The event was hosted by the Chabad of the Beaches, in partnership with the Long Beach MLK Center, and took place inside the auditorium of the Long Beach High School, according to Newsday. At the concert, organizers and attendees also held a moment of silence for the 17 victims of the mass shooting that took place two weeks.
Nissim, formerly known in rap circles as D. Black, converted to Judaism in 2013. The Seattle native recently told BBC the entire conversion process took him two and a half years, and he also talked about Judaism having an effect on his music. He said, “Before I converted to Judaism my music was much more about being flashy, and talking about, you know, sometimes hurting other people. The main thing that changed was the message. Right now I feel like I’m putting out a major fire with the music that I’m able to create.”
