JNS.org – Israeli fighter jets struck targets in southern Gaza, according to army reports, following the infiltration of a group of four Gaza Palestinians into Israel on Saturday night.
IDF raids on a Hamas site in Rafah took place just after the group entered Israeli territory and made efforts to destroy military machinery being used to construct a new anti-terror tunnel barrier between Israel and Gaza. A fifth member of the group helped to cut the border fence.
The group managed to flee the scene as troops arrived. The IDF did not release details on damage to the equipment, although footage showed men trying to set fire to it.
A new security barrier has been in the works since last year, and is meant to replace the chain-link fence that currently separates between Israel and Gaza. The barrier includes a thick underground concrete wall up to 80 meters below street level, as well as a tall metal fence. It is scheduled for completion at the end of 2019.
