A Palestinian journalist who recently died from a wound suffered at a riot last month on the Israel-Gaza Strip border was a member of a terrorist group, according to a new report.
The Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center (ITIC) compiled information showing that Ahmed Abu Hussein belonged to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), which is blacklisted by the United States, Canada, Israel, and the European Union.
One of the media outlets Hussein worked for was the PFLP-affiliated Voice of the People Radio.
On the day of Hussein’s burial, April 26, “PFLP death notices were hung, saying that the organization mourned the death of its member [al-rafiq in Arabic],” the ITIC report said. “Red PFLP flags were also carried during the funeral.”
Also, the report noted, the PFLP held a memorial service for Hussein two days later.
Several dozen Palestinian rioters have been killed by IDF fire since March 30 during repeated Hamas-orchestrated violent attempts to breach the border and infiltrate Israeli territory.
An ITIC analysis published on Thursday found that 80 percent of fatalities “were terrorist operatives or individuals affiliated with the terrorist organizations,” including Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
Since its founding in the late 1960s, the PFLP has been responsible for numerous terrorist attacks targeting Israelis, including airplane hijackings and suicide bombings.
