Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman met in Moscow on Thursday with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu.
According to the TASS news agency, the two discussed a de-escalation zone in southern Syria.
After the meeting, Lieberman tweeted, “The State of Israel appreciates Russia’s understanding of our security needs, particularly regarding the situation on our northern borders. We’ll continue our dialogue with Russia on every matter at hand.”

Later on Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin by telephone on the situation in Syria.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday the withdrawal of all non-Syrian forces from Syria’s southern border with Israel should happen as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Thursday that Iran-backed forces — including Hezbollah — were preparing to pull out from southern Syria, including the Daraa and Quneitra regions near the border with Israel.
