Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed on Wednesday that he will travel to Guatemala in November for a regional meeting with Latin American leaders.
The prime minister made the comment during a sit-down in Jerusalem with a visiting delegation of chairpersons of foreign affairs committees of Latin American parliaments.
“Our relations with the countries of Latin America are obviously changing very rapidly for the better,” Netanyahu said.
Last year, Netanyahu toured Argentina, Colombia and Mexico.
“I’m very proud of the fact that I was the first Israeli prime minister to visit any country south of Texas,” he noted.
Last month, Guatemala and Paraguay followed the US by relocating their embassies in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
“Jerusalem is the capital of Israel,” Netanyahu said on Wednesday. “And it will always be the capital of Israel. It’s been the capital of Israel for three thousand years.”
“I’m very glad that Guatemala has moved its embassy,” he continued. “I’m very glad that Paraguay has moved its embassy. And I ask you…to ask your governments to move their embassies to Jerusalem. So we can say, ‘Next year in Jerusalem.’”
