US President Donald Trump’s Middle East negotiations team — led by senior White House adviser Jared Kushner — met on Friday in Jerusalem with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on the last stop of a regional diplomatic swing ahead of the potential unveiling of a peace plan aimed at achieving what Trump has called the “deal of the century.”

A White House statement said:

“Senior Advisor Jared Kushner and Special Representative for International Negotiations Jason Greenblatt returned to Israel and met today with Ambassador David Friedman and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. They discussed the means by which the humanitarian situation in Gaza can be alleviated, while maintaining Israel’s security. They further discussed the continued commitment of the Trump Administration and Israel to advance peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians.”

Netanyahu’s office said in a statement: “Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed his gratitude for President Trump’s support for Israel. The teams discussed advancing the diplomatic process, developments in the region and the security and humanitarian situations in Gaza.”

Previous destinations on Kushner’s travel itinerary included Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Egypt.
