Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah faction spent the past few days trying to get people to show up to a Monday rally to protest Donald Trump’s still undisclosed “deal of the century.”
But the “rally” was barely attended. And you could tell that the “demonstrators” were all Fatah members, not representatives of the “Palestinian street.” There were no home-made signs, no signs of grassroots protest, and plenty of attempts by Abbas’ party to associate him with Yasser Arafat.
Even the official Fatah site said that only hundreds of people attended. And the event was so unsubstantial that it wasn’t even mentioned in non-Fatah media.
Hamas and Islamic Jihad can get thousands to show up at rallies whenever they want, but Fatah can’t fill up a city block in its own home territory. That tells you a lot about the state of the Palestinian factions.
