Jewish campaigners in the UK are furious with the country’s main prosecution authority after it blocked them from pursuing legal proceedings against a notorious Islamist antisemite.
The Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) said on Tuesday that it had been blocked from pressing a private case against Nazim Ali, who leads the annual “Al Quds Day” march in London — a global event supported by Iran where the flag of Hezbollah, the Tehran regime’s terrorist proxy in Lebanon, is prominently displayed.
The CAA said that Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which prosecutes cases investigated by the police and other law enforcement agencies, had taken over its private prosecution of Ali and immediately dropped it.
“This decision by the CPS is an appalling betrayal of British Jews, and we are now taking advice on using judicial review proceedings to force the CPS to either prosecute Mr Ali itself or let us get on with the job,” CAA head Gideon Falter said in a statement.
Falter accused the CPS of using “its statutory power to take over our private prosecution and then discontinue it.”
The CAA launched its private case against Ali after the CPS declined to prosecute him over antisemitic statements he made at the “Al Quds Day” rally in 2017. These included blaming a tragic fire at a public housing complex in West London that killed 72 residents on”the Zionists who give money to the Tory Party to kill people in high-rise blocks.”
“Free, Free, Palestine. From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” Ali continued, shouting a slogan advocating Israel’s elimination that is frequently heard at pro-Palestinian demonstrations.
Ali also told the crowd, “Careful of those rabbis who belong to the Board of Deputies, who have got blood on their hands, who agree with the killing of British soldiers. Do not allow them in your centers.”
Ali, who bills himself as a “British Muslim comedian,” earned plaudits from Iran’s state broadcaster Press TV for “winning his legal case against the Zionists” after the CPS made its announcement last week.
