Head Writer of Hit Israeli TV Series ‘Fauda’ to Teach at Rutgers University This Fall

The head screenwriter for the popular Israeli TV series Fauda will instruct students at Rutgers University in New Jersey this semester.
Moshe Zonder will teach the undergraduate course “Screenwriting for Television” in the school’s creative writing program twice a week. He will also take part in public programs hosted by the school’s Bildner Center for the Study of Jewish Life, including a panel discussion at the Rutgers Jewish Film Festival in November.
A former journalist for the Israeli daily Maariv, Zonder served as the head writer for Fauda, which became the first Israeli show released as a Netflix Original. The critically-acclaimed drama follows an undercover Israeli counter-terrorism unit operating in the West Bank.
Zonder’s residency is sponsored by the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation, a major backer of various Jewish and Zionist causes, as part of its Visiting Israeli Artist Program.
Since its inception in 2008, the program has supported the residencies of more than 100 artists at colleges and universities across North America.
Other artists in the 2018-2019 cohort include Taiseer Elias, a celebrated oud and violin artist, and Ronit Weiss-Berkowitz, who oversaw one of the largest publishers in Israel.
The artists will stay on various US college campuses, including the University of Florida, University of California–Berkeley, Oberlin College, Trinity College, University of California–Los Angeles, and San Diego State University.
