Terrorist groups in the Gaza Strip, including ruling Hamas, released a joint statement on Sunday threatening Israel with an escalation in violence following the deaths of four Palestinian rioters on the border on Friday.
“We will not sit idly by in the face of these crimes,” said the statement, according to Hebrew news site Walla. “There was malicious intent to snipe the martyrs and the wounded. Those killed were 300-600 meters away … and did not endanger IDF soldiers. Most of the wounded were at a distance of 150-300 meters, which demonstrates that there was a clear intention on the part of the snipers to wound them.”
“The criminal steps against our people crossed all red lines,” the statement added. “It seems that the enemy longs for rounds of fighting and harsh retaliation. When it comes to the blood of our people, no money, electricity, water, and even air to breathe will prevent us from fulfilling what is required of us.”
The IDF is reportedly stepping up security arrangements on the Gaza border, especially along nearby roads.
Verbal attacks on Israel also came from the West Bank, this time with the opposite claim.
According to the Hebrew news site Mako, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas accused the Israeli government of collaborating with Hamas, claiming, “Netanyahu takes money and transfers it to Hamas so they will commit activities in the West Bank, and we are paying the price.”
Oddly, Abbas also defended Hamas, asserting it was not a terror organization. “In spite of everything, they are part of the Palestinian people,” he said.
