Meek Mill Calls Rap Lyrics About Jews and Money a ‘Compliment’
by Shiryn Ghermezian
Meek Mill tweeted on Monday that controversial rap lyrics about Jews were a compliment, rather than derogatory.
The 31-year-old Philadelphia native said that rapping about Jews in connection with money was done to highlight their wealth and success in a positive light.
After a Twitter user noted that the term “Jewish money” drew on negative stereotypes “featured in Nazi propaganda,” Mill wrote, “Jews have always owned everything in our culture from record labels …. our favorite teams … our neighborhoods … our clothing … it has always been a compliment to say we was getting money like them from knowing the history of them overcoming hatred!”

Mill’s comment came after fellow artist 21 Savage apologized for rapping about “Jewish money” in his song “ASMR,” with the lyrics, “We been gettin’ that Jewish money, everything is kosher.”
He stated in his apology that he “never thought anyone would take offense,” and added, “I’m sorry if I offended everybody never my intention. I love all people.”
Los Angeles Lakers basketball star Lebron James had earlier issued an apology of his own, after he had drawn criticism for sharing the lyrics in question from 21 Savage’s song on social media.
