Israeli police are calling on the public stop spreading unsubstantiated rumors about the murder of a 19-year-old woman whose body was found on Thursday on the southern outskirts of Jerusalem.

The body of Ori Ansbacher — a resident of Tekoa who was doing a year of national service at a youth center in the Israeli capital at the time of her death — was discovered with signs of violence on it in an outdoor area near the Ein Yael Living Museum hours after she was reported missing.

No suspect has been identified and no motive has been determined for the crime yet, and terrorism has not been ruled out.

Ansbacher’s funeral in Tekoa on Friday was attended by hundreds of mourners.

In a statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Ansbacher was killed with “shocking brutality.”

“At this difficult hour, we all embrace the Ansbacher family and the people of Tekoa. The security forces are investigating the murder — we will find those responsible for it, and we will bring them to justice,” Netanyahu vowed.

A police statement on Friday said, “Since the murder that took place yesterday, there have been different publications and reports, especially on social media, regarding the circumstances of the case, including horrific descriptions that are irresponsible.”

“We are clarifying that these publications are baseless and hurt the honor of the victim and her family while misleading the public,” the statement continued.
