Israel and the Arab world are united by a “common interest of combating Iran,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday from Poland, where he was attending a US-sponsored Middle East diplomatic summit.

“What we are doing is pushing and driving Iran from Syria,” the Israeli leader stated. “We are committed to doing this.”

“It is cold in Warsaw right now but Israel’s foreign relations are warming up, warming up for the better,” he asserted.

Earlier on Thursday, Netanyahu met in the Polish capital with Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, four months after he visited Muscat.

“People of the Middle East have suffered a lot because they are stuck to the past,” bin Alawi said. “This is a new era for the future and for prosperity for every nation.”

Netanyahu will sit down with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Thursday.

Also on Thursday, senior White House adviser Jared Kushner is expected to brief conference participants on the Trump administration’s yet-to-be-unveiled Israeli-Palestinian peace plan.

The US State Department said on Wednesday, “There is no shortage of challenges in the Middle East. From weapons proliferation and humanitarian crises, to terrorism and energy security, these issues and others pose serious threats to stability in the region and to security around the world.”

The Warsaw gathering, it added, would “reinvigorate efforts to address these challenges by revitalizing our alliances and partnerships.”

“It will provide countries an opportunity to share their assessments of the region and offer ideas on how to solve our shared problems,” the State Department noted.

More than 60 nations sent representatives to Poland for the conference.
