Oman will not formalize its ties with Israel without the founding of a Palestinian state, the Gulf sultanate’s top diplomat said on Monday.
Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah’s comment came a week after he met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the sidelines of a US-sponsored Middle East diplomatic summit in Poland.
“There is no normalization of relations with Israel, but rather an ongoing diplomatic process aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the Palestinian problem,” bin Alawi said on Monday.
“The establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state is a condition for any normalization with the Israelis,” he stated.
In October, Netanyahu visited the Omani capital of Muscat, where he was hosted by Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
