At Computex, Intel Unveils Israeli-Developed 10th Gen Core Processors

CTech – On Tuesday, Intel unveiled its 10th Gen core processors at the Computex 2019 trade show in Taiwan. The company’s Israeli research and development center in the northern Israeli city Haifa played a major part in the development of the new processors, Intel said in a statement.
The processors, dubbed “Ice Lake,” are created based on the company’s 10nm process technology, as well as the new “Sunny Cove” core architecture, which was developed in Haifa, the company said. The processors will be commercially available later this year.
Intel, which opened its first operations in Israel in 1974, is the largest non-government employer in the country. The company currently employs approximately 13,000 people locally, including the 1,100 people employed by automotive chipmaker Mobileye, acquired by Intel in 2017 for $15.3 billion.
Intel’s exports from Israel amounted to $4 billion in 2018, according to company statements, The company recently announced plans to expand its manufacturing operations in Israel’s south. In January, Israeli Minister of Finance Moshe Kahlon said the company has agreed to invest NIS 40 billion ($11.9 billion) in the expansion.
According to Ilan Cohn, senior partner at intellectual property law firm Reinhold Cohn, 12 percent of all patents submitted by Intel in 2015-2018 originated in Israel, with the number rising to 13.5 percent in 2018.
