Suzy Levi, 65, First Israeli Medical Professional to Die of COVID-19

Nurses held a moment of silence in her honor of Suzy Levi on Monday morning.
A nurse, Suzy Levi, who is the first Israeli medical worker to succumb to the coronavirus, died on April 26.
She worked at the Sheba Medical Center in Ramat Gan. Her sister died of the coronavirus two weeks ago. There have been 202 deaths in Israel to date because of COVID-19, according to the Health Ministry.
Levi is included on a Facebook page devoted to healthcare workers who have died of the virus.
Her colleagues at the Sheba Medical Center held a moment of silence in her honor on Monday morning, according to an obituary in The Times of Israel.
According to that obituary, her family was in “pain and shock at the premature passing of Suzy, who was the pillar of the family. Mom stubbornly continued to work even though she should have retired, and that characterizes her endless giving and caring until her last day.”
Levi, who was on a ventilator for nearly 30 days, worked at the Sheba Medical Center for almost a half century.
In an article that mentions her death, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported that Sheba is going to collaborate with the Maryland-based National Institutes for Health on research into COVID-19.
As the JTA reported, Dror Harats, chairman of the Research and Development Division at Sheba Medical Center, noted in a prepared statement, “This is an important achievement for Sheba, as we engage with and assist the NIH, the most important research center in the world, in finding the proper treatments and eventually a vaccine that will rid the world of this pandemic and save millions of lives in the process.”
