i24 News – The Israeli military (IDF) said in an official statement that “an IDF soldier was killed as a result of a ramming attack” at the Maccabim checkpoint near Jerusalem on Thursday.
“His family has been notified. The IDF sends its heartfelft condolences to his family and will continue to support them,” the statement added.
Three other soldiers were wounded as a truck ran over three people and fled the scene. According to the IDF, one suffered “severe injuries” while the other two were lightly wounded.
It was earlier revealed that three civilians were also lighty injured in the attack – a vendor on the side of the road and a 25-year-old man and a woman, whose car collided with the terrorist’s vehicle when he was trying to escape. They were evacuated in a light condition with back injuries.
The terrorist was shot dead near another checkpoint after fleeing the scene, according to a Defense Ministry statement. The car didn’t belong to him.
According to Channel 14, the terrorist is Daoud Abdel Razak Faiz, a Palestinian resident of Deir ‘Ammar village near Ramallah with no previous security background. He is 41 years old, married and has five children. The IDF confirmed that he had a work permit in Israel.
“The terrorist who carried out the attack at the Maccabim crossing escaped by driving towards the Hashmona’im crossing. Security guards from the Ministry of Defense’s Crossings Authority at the Hashmona’im Crossing were deployed following information they received from the IDF, identified the terrorist and neutralized him,” the statement said, adding that there were no other casualties.
The road between the two crossings was closed in both directions.
