Jewish Voice Actress Learns on Social Media She Was Fired After Supporting Israel, Condemning Hamas

Jewish veteran voice actress Tara Strong said she found out on social media that she was fired from her role in the independent animated series Boxtown after she voiced solidarity with Israel and condemned Hamas terrorists in numerous posts on X/Twitter about the ongoing war in the Middle East.
Boxtown addressed the decision to severe ties with Strong in a statement on Monday.
“This decision was due to a trend among Tara’s recent online activity, including posts that promote controversial messages regarding the peoples of Palestine currently being affected by the ongoing Israel-Palestine crisis,” the statement read in part. “We believe that our public platform gives us a duty to be careful when it comes to hateful messages and misinformation online. This extends to our cast and crew. This was not a difficult decision.”
The statement continued: “Our hearts are with the Palestinian and Israeli children and families being affected by the ongoing conflict. People should be able to live freely without being threatened by constant abuse and terror. We are hoping for the best.”
Two days after Hamas launched its initial attack against Israel on Oct. 7, Strong — who has voiced characters on several animated shows including Loki, The PowerPuff Girls, Rugrats, and Teen Titans Go! — wrote in one post on X/Twitter: “This is only the beginning. They were smart to start with a country people love to hate. This is only the beginning.” She later called Hamas terrorists “f—king monsters,” said they should “never be celebrated,”and noted how it was “so disappointing” that the Black Lives Matter movement was not voicing support for Israel amid the war.
Strong wrote in a separate post on X: “Hamas has successfully brainwashed the Western world to actually believe that terrorism can be justified.” She also shared and reposted several messages on social media expressing heartbreak with the innocent Israeli civilians impacted by the war and denouncing Hamas’ atrocities.
Strong found out on Oct. 13 on social media that her role in Boxtown was being recast.
“Just found out on Twitter!” she wrote a day after the show announced in a post on X about her firing. “This is what happens when you help fans get shows made I guess. Fired for being Jewish. Glad I helped you get your kickstarter money. Please lose my email address & pray for my family in Israel and in Gaza. & #prayforpeace.”
Some social media users slammed Boxtown for firing Strong.
“The world hates when Jews speak up and fight back … can’t figure out why you fired her instead of sticking up for her,” wrote one user on X. “These events have struck deep tripwires for Jews all around the world, and the responses from the world have been disheartening and disgusting. You had a chance to stand with your employee and friend — instead you, like Hamas apologists all over campuses and around the world, took the opportunity to pile onto her.”
Another wrote, “So you fired a Jew for defending her people, speaking out against terror? Screw you and screw your show.”
The co-writer of the Boxtown pilot, Spencer Rothbell, defended the show against Strong’s claim that she was fired for being Jewish. Rothbell said he is Jewish as well as actor Alex Hirsch, who voices one of the main characters in the show.
