A spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) called out Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg on Friday after she expressed solidarity with “Palestine and Gaza” amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war but stayed silent about the Israeli victims. Thunberg also promoted the false accusation that the Jewish state is committing “genocide” in the Gaza Strip.
“Whoever identifies with Greta in any way in the future, in my view, is a terror supporter,” Arye Sharuz Shalicar, a spokesperson for the Israeli army, told Politico. “Because what Greta is doing, that she is now showing solidarity with Gaza while not saying a word about the massacres of Israelis, shows that she is actually not in favor of the Palestinians, but that she is sweeping the terror of the Palestinians or Hamas and Islamic Jihad under the table as if it did not exist.”
Thunberg, 20, shared on her Instagram Story on Friday a post by a Germany-based, pro-Palestinian account that claimed a “genocide” was happening in Gaza.
The climate activist also said in a post on X/Twitter: “Today we strike in solidarity with Palestine and Gaza. The world needs to speak up and call for an immediate ceasefire, justice, and freedom for Palestinians and all civilians affected.” The message was accompanied by a photo of Thunberg holding a sign that read “Stand With Gaza” while others in the picture can be seen holding signs saying “Free Palestine,” “This Jew Stands With Palestine,” and “Climate Justice Now.”

Thunberg later posted another message in which she shared names of some humanitarian and nonprofit organizations that her fans can support to help amid the war. The list included a host of anti-Israel groups including IfNotNow, the Adalah Justice Project — which calls to “#EndTheSiegeOnGaza” — and Jewish Voice for Peace.
Shalicar later apologized for his comments about those who support Thunberg, saying, “I spoke out of a deep sense of pain and my words do not reflect my personal views or those of the IDF.”
Israel has been launching air strikes against Hamas targets in Gaza after the Palestinian terrorist group invaded the Jewish state earlier this month and perpetrated the worst single-day massacre against Jews since the Holocaust.
