The MTV Europe Music Awards set to be held next month have been canceled due to the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

MTV announced in a statement on Thursday that the event has been called off “given the volatility of world events” and “out of an abundance of caution” for the thousands of staff and crew members, artists, fans, and partners “who travel from all corners of the world to bring the show to life.”

“The MTV EMAs are an annual celebration of global music,” the network added. “As we watch the devastating events in Israel and Gaza continue to unfold, this does not feel like a moment for a global celebration. With thousands of lives already lost, it is a moment of mourning.”

The Middle Eastern war began on Oct. 7, when Hamas terrorists invaded Israel from neighboring Gaza, which the Palestinian terror group controls, and killed over 1,400 people, injured thousands more, and took more than 200 people as hostages.
