Rabbi Simon Jacobson, the chairman and publisher of The Algemeiner, on Wednesday said that Hamas terrorists had underestimated the strength of the Jewish people in choosing the holiday of Simchat Torah to carry out their Oct. 7 massacre of more than 1,400 people.
Hamas “made a grave error the day they chose to attack us,” Jacobson said. “They thought that Simchat Torah – we’re vulnerable, we’re not ready, we’re partying. Little did they know … that Simchat Torah is actually the celebration of Jewish indestructibility. Simchat Torah is celebrated precisely because it was born out of the broken tablets. The broken Western Wall gave birth to the eternal hope that we Jews are. So though we don’t want these type of events, they actually make us far stronger and greater.”
