Arab-Israeli actress Maisa Abd Elhadi was indicted on Sunday after being arrested by police in Israel for uploading social media posts that supported Hamas’ violent terrorist attacks against Israel earlier this month.

The Nazareth-born actress, who has appeared in several Israeli films and television shows, was charged with three offenses of identifying with a terrorist organization and two offenses of inciting terrorism, according to Israeli media reports. After being arrested by police, Elhadi, 37, was first released to house arrest before the prosecutor’s office filed an indictment against her on Sunday morning.

“The accused published words of praise, sympathy, and encouragement for the terrorist acts as well as words of praise, sympathy, encouragement, and identification with the Hamas organization,” read the indictment, according to Israel’s Channel 13. The document also said that “under the [current] concrete circumstances, there is a real possibility that her advertisements will lead to an act of terrorism.”

In one Instagram Story, Elhadi shared a picture of a tractor in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip knocking down the border fence separating Israel and Gaza and wrote in the caption, “Let’s go Berlin style.” Her comment was a reference to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 — a huge blow to the Soviet Union and communism worldwide.

The actress shared another picture of Hamas terrorists who kidnapped an adult woman and, according to the indictment, wrote in the caption in Arabic, “Our boys are good. The lady is going on the adventure of her life.” She also added laughing emojis. The indictment explained that the woman in the photo was 85-year-old Israeli Yaffe Ader, who was among the more than 200 people kidnapped by Hamas on Oct. 7 and forcibly taken back to Gaza.

Elhadi was even shamed by one of her co-stars, Israeli actor Ofer Shechter, from the Israeli show Temporarily Dead, for her pro-Hamas posts. Shechter shared screenshots of her inflammatory Instagram posts on his own account and told her in a Hebrew language message, “I am ashamed of you! You live in Nazareth, star in our [television] series and movies with us and then stab a knife in our backs.”

Israel’s Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir said Elhadi’s arrest and indictment sends “a clear message to all those instigators and supporters of terrorism” that Israel will hold them accountable for their actions.
