A number of Orthodox Jewish groups are encouraging followers to attend a planned pro-Israel rally in Washington, DC on Nov. 14, which organizers hope will be the largest event of its kind in American history.
Crown Heights rabbinic leaders Rabbi Avrohom Osdoba and Rabbi Yosef Braun penned a letter encouraging the community to attend the mass rally.
“Considering the current precarious situation of our brothers and sisters in Eretz Yisroel, as well the strong hostility from some circles to the continued support of the United States government for the Jewish people, we believe it is important to inform the community about this important rally,” the letter says. “There’s no doubt that a large turnout at this event will have a strong impact.”
Agudah Israel, an American organization that represents Haredi Orthodox Jews, has also publicly voiced support for the rally.
“In light of the ongoing life-threatening danger confronting Israeli soldiers and all of our dear brothers and sisters in Eretz Yisroel, and with great concern about the extremely volatile political climate here in the United States, we feel it is important … that there be a large turnout at this event,” Agudah said in a message to its supporters.
On Sunday, Yeshiva University president Ari Berman announced that the school would close on the 14th. “We are going to Washington to stand with Israel, Am Yisrael Chai,” he wrote on X/Twitter.
The Orthodox Union, one of the largest Orthodox Jewish organizations in the United States, will also be participating in the march.
The messages reflect the broad diversity of participating organizations, which also include the Union for Reform Judaism and Americans for Peace Now.
The rally, which is being co-organized by the Jewish Federations of North America and the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, is set to take place on Nov. 14 at 1:00 pm at the National Mall in Washington, DC. Gates will open at 10:00 am.
The rally comes after hundreds of thousands of anti-Israel protesters have marched in capitals across the world, often displaying antisemitic signs.
