A New York synagogue was defaced with antisemitic graffiti earlier this week as the global spate of Jew-hatred in the wake of Israel’s war in Gaza continues.

Graffiti including a Nazi swastika was scrawled on a door of the Romemu Center, a progressive synagogue in New York’s Upper West Side neighborhood, according to an email from Rabbis David Ingber and Jeffrey Cahn to congregants.

“These symbols of hate will not deter us from our mission of love, acceptance, and understanding,” the message read. “We are resolute in our commitment to building a world where prejudice has no place, and where the power of compassion and unity prevails.”

Since Hamas’ Oct. 7 terrorist onslaught across southern Israel, synagogues have been burned and defaced in major cities throughout North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
